City of masters
The style of Tunisian hotels repeats the architectural forms of local cities. Fifty kilometers south of Monastir begins the resort area of Mahdi with its virgin beaches. This town is known in the past as a pirate nest. Mahdia has always been famous for the mysterious tradition of fishing in the moonlight. But even more – with wonderful products: embroidery and fabrics. Silk fabrics are traditionally made by men. Walking along the narrow streets of the old city, you will often admire the masterpieces of gold and silver threads created manually by real artists in their tiny workshops.
The boundless white beaches of Cape Africa, on which Mahdia is located, crystal clear waters, a modern tourist area surrounded by greenery, will conquer the adherents of a relaxing comfortable holiday, as well as scuba diving enthusiasts.
What girls want
Another advantage of a vacation in Tunisia is the opportunity to enjoy thalassotherapy treatments. European quality and affordable prices, agree, more than a tempting offer.
Desert Desserts – Always Fresh, Juicy Fruits and Watermelons The Tunisian thalassotherapy centers are located right on the coast. For procedures, exclusively fresh sea water is used here, which is protected from the sea 450 m from the coast at a depth of 6-10 meters. Such water is rich in mineral salts and oligoelements identical to human plasma. Microelements, the deficit of which we acutely feel, are especially useful – iodine, sulfur, potassium.
Almost every fifth Tunisian hotel has thalassocenters, in every second – balneotherapy centers or SPA. The best thalassocenters are located in the city of Hammamet – this is Bio Azur (the most modern in the world), Hasdrubal Thalassa & SPA, Nahreweiss Thalassa, Bioform. Before you go to bask in the bath, for a massage (more than 20 kinds are at your service!), Mud and algae wraps, you will be offered an individual consultation by a doctor and he will prescribe the necessary procedures depending on your body condition – tonic, restorative, cosmetic, postpartum, for weight loss or joint treatment.
In the center of Hasdrubal Thalassa & SPA you can try exclusive oriental procedures, which have no analogues anywhere. For example, Mandara. The name and content of this procedure is associated with an ancient legend that tells about the search by the gods for the elixir of eternal youth and immortality. The legend tells of ten phases of human destruction and the means by which these phases can be overcome, and these are: a flower bath alternating with Cleopatra’s bath (sea water, milk, aromatic verbena oil), hydrotherapy, and alternating massage techniques. You will also enjoy the Alf Layla Wa Layla (Thousand and One Nights) procedure, which includes alternating applications of sea mud and rosemary, hammam, body massage, facial and … an introduction to the world of oriental dance.
In any resort city of Tunisia, you will be offered a two-day trip to the Sahara. Do you want some advice? Agree.
The first stop on the way is a tour of the famous, third-largest coliseum in the world in El Jem, built by the ancient Romans in the 2nd century A.D. Here you will see the arena in which gladiators fought. By the way, the Hollywood picture “Gladiator” was filmed here. And here, given the marvelous acoustics, an international symphonic music festival is held annually.
Berber Fortress. Then the path lies south to the Gabes sea oasis – you will learn how the oases are arranged, taste the famous legmi (fresh palm juice). A little higher in the mountains, and you find yourself in Matamata, the settlement of troglodytes – “people living in holes.” The local plateau resembles familiar scenes from the films “Space Odyssey” and “Star Wars”.
Oasis Douz – on the edge of the Sahara. Here tourists dress up as nomads and change to camels. Local desert ships are different – quiet and not very tired of sightseers, but utopian. bare feet in soft sand, they do not interfere with moving along a dune. And then you will see the sunset in the desert: a huge red disk slowly creeps to the horizon, and around – only sands. The sunrise is no less beautiful here: the sky shimmers with red, purple and orange shades.
On the second day of your trip to the Sahara, you will find the salt lake of Chott el Jerid, famous for mirages. Under a layer of sand is a thick layer of salt, and under it is water. Walking on the lake is not worth it: whole caravans failed here. But it is in this place that very beautiful stones are formed from sand and salt – “desert roses”, in shape really resembling rose petals. You can buy them at any souvenir shop, but to find it yourself is cooler. Then again, an oasis, unique wildlife, a jeep safari on hard and soft dunes, a photo shoot against the backdrop of the scenery left over from the filming of Star Wars and the city of Kairouan, the fourth most important shrine of the Muslim world …
Upon arrival home everyone has a slight nostalgia for Tunisia.
